For Thanksgiving this year we traveled to the eastern shore to spend the day with Marcus' family. It's only about a two hour ride from DC, where we live, yet it seems worlds away. Their house has a front row seat on the Chesapeake Bay. The shoreline is adorned with oyster shells and sometimes you can spot giant osprey from the dock. It's just a wonderful place.
I made a cheese ball, which was way easier than I thought it would be. For some reason, probably having to do with my appreciation for cheese, I've alway been really impressed when someone makes a cheese ball. Now, that I've made one myself, I realize how easy it is. All I did was mix together cream cheese, blue cheese, some sharp cheddar, and a few spoonfuls of red pepper jelly that I had on hand. Then I rolled it in crushed walnuts and stored it in the fridge over night.
The cheese ball was my only contribution; it was really quite lovely to relax for the ENTIRE day and not worry about cooking. Marcus' Mom made all of the food, including the family favorite (and mine as well), oyster dressing.
I had three scoops.
My other favorites were the crab quiche, cranberry sauce, and sweet potato biscuits, which are a regional specialty.
I'm working on getting the recipe for the oyster dressing and will pass it on soon!
