This morning I dragged Marcus out of bed at 7 am. Come on, we're going blueberry picking! We arrived at Butler's Orchard by 9:10, and were in the blueberry field by 9:20. Butler's Orchard is only a short drive from DC. With no traffic you can be there in 30-40 minutes. You should bring sunscreen, water, and a bucket or a container to hold your blueberries. If you forget your bucket at home, you can buy one at Butler's for $1.25.
You park and then hop on a tractor-pulled wagon. As you can see, it was already quite busy by the time we got to Butler's.
Everyone gets assigned a bush and you are suppose to "pick it clean." Most people follow the rules, but some don't. Compared to last year, the crowds were tame.
Marcus and I picked 7 pounds of blueberries. A lot, but not as many as this dude.
After picking you can stop in the country store. I love country stores. Usually, there's a lot of tasty things to buy. I'm not sure what I'll make with my blueberries. I'm thinking jam, cobbler, and, maybe, jelly candies.
Last year I made Violet Beauregarde blueberry muffins.
