Today Marcus and I went apple picking at Stribling Orchard in Markham, Virginia. When we arrived at the farm, a very interesting character greeted us:
But was very gentle. Even a little silly.
It was a gorgeous day. But perhaps a little late in the year for apple picking. I think most of the apples had been picked in September. There were only a few varieties on the trees and after picking a few "taste tests" we decided to purchase some apples from the orchard store instead.
I was after some pie-ready apples, and some for applesauce.
The smell of apple pie was everywhere.
There's also a BBQ (hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken) and a few picnic tables at Stribling.
Stribling isn't the only place to eat lunch. A few miles down the road from Stribling (exit 13) is a place called the Apple House. They sell yummy apple donuts, kettle corn, BBQ, and soft serve ice cream. The line was out the door at 1:30.
