Last night, on my way to the food blogger potluck, I had a panic attack on U Street. Would people bring food to the potluck or would we all be standing around drinking red wine on empty stomachs. Hello! How absurd was that? It was a food blogger happy hour. Of course, everyone brought dishes. And not just any old dish, either. They brought their A-game. Asian chicken wings, stuffed mushrooms, Thai lemon grass soup, pate en croute, sweet potato pie, spinach pie, artichoke dip, onion dip, walnut and feta dip all fought for space on the table and bar. And there were enough sweets to keep the tooth fairy off the dole.
So, really, there was need for a panic attack. Our first DC Food Blogger potluck was a raging success by any measure. Capital Cooking provided an amazing setting: the party room in her condo building, Union Row. And about 50 bloggers and food lovers came through its doors.
This pate en croute was the talk of the party.
The people who come to these events are warm, funny, and interesting. And they all love food! No one knows each other at the beginning, but by the end you are planning a mission to find flavor with your new confederates.
This thai soup made my taste buds tap dance.
These chicken wings were meaty, tangy, sweet, sticky, and unforgettable.
Yes, I know. There are too many cupcake stores in DC. But let me tell you, there is no such thing as too many cupcakes made by local food bloggers.
Special thanks to co-hosts: Modern Domestic, Gradually Greener, Dining in DC, Capital Cooking, Capital Spice, We Love DC, and the Beerspotter. If you want to join the happy hour planning committee, please leave a comment or send me an email.
If you didn't make it this time, there's always next month (February 3).
