I've mentioned here and there that Marcus and I are getting married. (THIS SATURDAY!) When I tell people this, they immediately start asking questions, like a prosecutor cross examines a witness on the stand: Where is the reception? How long have you been engaged? Where's your ring? What does your dress look like? How are you going to wear your hair? What are your colors? Blah, blah, blah. Let's get to the important stuff: What's to eat?
Let's go backwards and start with dessert. Some of the wedding cakes I've seen in bridal magazines (I swear, I only bought one!), are gorgeous with a capital G. They are also capital E --expensive, and a little too formal. I was after a simple, rustic wedding. I was after deliciousness. I was after whimsy. Given these criteria, cupcakes made perfect sense. Instead of ordering them from one of the faceless cupcake shops in DC, I procured the talents of a local blogger, Modern Domestic. I learned first hand from the blogger bake sale that Jenna makes rich, moist, cupcakes. My favorite was her peanut butter chocolate cake. For the wedding, I also requested carrot cake and lemon cupcakes.
What are the advantages of hiring Modern Domestic? Jenna just quit her full-time job to pursue her dream of baking professionally. She's not only talented in the yumminess department, but also has given me one thing any person planning a wedding needs: peace of mind. I know the cupcakes will be made fresh that morning and will taste delicious (plus, she was less expensive than her competitors). If you have an upcoming event, I recommend her highly. Check her out at Modern Domestic.
